Yes. Gloves cushion the impact but do very little to hold your wrist straight or keep your knuckles aligned — that is what the wrap underneath does. At $15 a pair, hand wraps are the cheapest injury prevention in the sport.
2.4m is the standard adult length and what we stock. It gives enough material for several wrist turns, full knuckle coverage and the figure-eight passes between the fingers, without so much bulk that your glove stops fitting.
Gloves are largely there to protect what you hit — they spread the impact over a padded surface. Wraps protect you, by binding the small bones of the hand and the wrist into a single unit so the shock loads the whole structure rather than one knuckle.
Thumb loop, three to four wrist turns, three around the knuckles, figure-eights through the fingers, and finish back at the wrist. Close your fist as you go — it should feel firm, not tight enough to throb. See the step-by-step guide.
Yes, and in Singapore humidity they should be washed regularly. Roll them loosely, put them in a mesh laundry bag so they do not tangle, wash normally and air dry. Many people buy two pairs and alternate.
